Shri Rajiv Gandhi, Shrimati Indira Gandhi, his mother, both had lost lives as Ex Prime Minister and PM-in-the-Office respectively due to assassination. The Iron Lady Mrs Indira Gandhi, well known for a strong influence in her times, was assassinated by her own bodyguards who retaliated against her past decision of eliminating terrorists through “Operation Blue Star” in Golden Temple at Amritsar, Punjab. She lost her life on the spot.
A new tragedy took the life of charismatic “India Icon”, the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Rajiv Gandhi. He was killed by LTTE, Srilanka Militants in retaliation of his earlier engagement of IPKF defence forces in Srilanka. The son who became PM on the day (31st October 1984) his mother lost her life as PM, had to succumb to militants, just in a span of 7 years as EX PM of India (on 21st May 1991).
