Local Greyshirt volunteers are deploying to Florida today to perform reconnaissance to assess community needs for assistance after Hurricane Debby made landfall on 5 August. Several communities in the state were inundated with severe flooding from heavy rain dumped by the slow-moving storm. During reconnaissance, Greyshirts will meet with community leaders to determine where we can have the most impact for those in need.
Greyshirts are deploying to Dixie, Hillsborough, Lafayette, Levy, Manatee, Pinellas, Sarasota, and Taylor counties. Team Rubicon served several of these counties after Hurricane Idalia last year, and we’re ready to return to serve these communities again.
Debby continued to bring heavy rain and flooding to Georgia and South Carolina over the last few days. Last night, the storm lingered near the Atlantic coast, regaining its strength, before making landfall again near Charleston, SC, early this morning. As Debby moves through the Carolinas, communities are especially at risk for heavy rain with flooding, storm surges on the coast, and tornadoes, which have already been reported.
As Debby continues to move inland into the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast over the coming days, Team Rubicon will keep you updated as we perform reconnaissance in Florida and while also monitoring Debby’s impacts in the Carolinas and beyond.
